Today was the day I learnt that it's not an easy life to be into academics and specially more importantly into an FPM programme. I was part of a presentation of what we call here as Pre-thesis defense. This is the time when a scholar presents post proposal work and has to defend his/her upcoming Ph.D.
From what I saw and felt the scenario is really tense and there's a grill down session on the proposed thesis. If you are the one defending the prethesis you better go with some psychiatrist advice on how to face pressure; immense pressure.
The professors show no mercy on questioning every aspect of your work. I'd not want to discuss here the person nor the prethesis that he was defending for the reasons of confidentiality. I am starting to believe that there's more than what meets the eyes when it comes to going about Ph.D.
